Centennial Park Pedal Cars : A Weekend Ride

Centennial Park is the larger of the three parks that make up Centennial Parklands. It is the perfect place to head when you are struggling to come up with something to do with the kids because you can almost always guarantee that you will find something to do there from the Centennial Park Pedal Cars to the labyrinth, feeding the various birds and fish to riding a horse.

Horse riding in Centennial Park has been an activity that we have enjoyed numerous times and is usually our go to activity at the park. However, on our most recent visit the kids were keen to try the pedal cars. I think I bit off more than I could chew!

Arriving at Centennial Park Cycles, the kids and I had our eye on the 4-seater pedal car which would offer us all the opportunity to pedal. Unfortunately, to be able to take a seat your feet must reach pedals whilst sitting on the bench seat. Two of the kids had difficulty reaching while sitting down so we had to downsize to the 2-seater pedal car which I would pedal with Miss 11. Sunshine and Miss 9 would sit in the front children’s seat (neither were very happy about that, to be honest).

When you leave Centennial Park Cycles on your pedal car it is important to note that you have to head in a clockwise direction along Grand Drive. You are not allowed to cut through the park and you have to use the bike zone. This means, that when your other driver gives up and you are the only one peddling the car you can not take a shortcut to get you back. You are stuck pedalling the whole way around.

The kids were delighted with the crawl around Centennial Park in our pedal car. The speed of my peddling was slow enough to provide ample time to become familiar with the park and identify spots that they would like to go back to. As the only adult peddling, I strongly encourage you to ONLY hire a pedal car if you have another adult with you who is fit enough to match your own peddling speed.
