My family and I spend more time at Cronulla beach in summer than anywhere else. Manly has been left largely unexplored so when I won tickets to Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary we planned a whole day adventure. The drive itself, across the harbour bridge and then Spit Bridge, almost made the trip special all by itself. But then we arrived at Manly and our day really took off.
Next time we’re ferrying the trip. Car parking around the Aquarium is minimal and only for two hours. I think a ferry adventure would save time and would be an adventure all on its own, don’t you think?
The thing that struck me first about Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary is its size. We have visited quite a number of aquariums across Australia and the USA and this would be the smallest. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Often an intimate setting provides some of the best observation opportunities. This aquarium has a rich history dating back to 1965 – my mum actually visited in the year it opened which made the trip extra special.
Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary boats its own colony of Little Penguins (ever wondered why we no longer call them Fairy Penguins?); a 4,000,000-litre Shark Harbour which features sharks, rays, turtles and tropical fish and Underwater Sydney which takes you up and close to many of the creatures you’ll find in the ocean around Sydney (including Bare Island). Like most aquariums these days, there is also a touch pool for the kids where they can handle urchins, shark eggs and a number of fish jaws.

Hi Felicity. A great question. No, it’s not very pray friendly. Pram access to the top and bottom floors is tricky by the staff are usually on hand to help. I’m personally and advocate of Babywearing on this type of adventure, but I know that too can be tricky for some.
Thankyou so much! I have a 4 and 2 year old. Too big and tall to baby wear! Old enough to walk but still get worn out on a big adventure like this. Especially if we were to train and ferry it. Good to know though Thank you!!
Yes, a big day indeed! You could probably keep the Pram up the top near the ticket booth if that helps at all
