North

The Northern suburbs of Melbourne boast quite an array of spaces where the streets light up for Christmas. Through our online research we have pulled together what others have recommended as the best Christmas Lights Melbourne for 2019. We would love to hear what you think!

The Boulevard | Ivanhoe

If the reports can be believed, this is the biggest and best Christmas light show in Melbourne. The whole street community is involved and lights stretch from the houses into the trees and lights. Parking can be tricky, so get in early so you miss the crowds. From Dec 15. 8.30-11pm.

Tennyson Avenue and Gordon Grove | Preston

A number of houses on these streets go all out each Christmas, with one house including over 40,000 lights! The music will get you bopping along too! From Dec 1-26. Sun-Thu 8.45-10.30pm; Fri, Sat 8.45pm-midnight.

Palpera Terrace | Greensborough

Head across to Greensborough to see how Robert Mackintosh’s yearly decorating hobby has morphed into a full blown obsession featuring an incredible lightshow. From Dec 1. 8.30-11pm.

Reichelt Ave, Montmorency

Reindeers, a snow machine trains and more! The Christmas lights have been flashing each Christmas at Montmorency since back in 2002 and they’re only getting bigger and flashier. From 1-28, 7.30pm-11pm.

The Boulevard | Thomastown

For over two decades the Filippini Family have been lighting up their property with an amazing display, whilst also raising money for the Heart Foundation. From 27th November until the 27th of December.

South

Of course, the southern suburbs have joined in developing a range festivities so they can be part of the annual Christmas lights in Melbourne. We’ve rounded up a few of the streets that have made it onto roundup lists over the last few years.

Vialls Avenue and Cedric Street | Parkdale

Every year the number of houses on these Parkdale streets dressing up their property for Christmas increases.

Tennis Court | Mornington

This is an actual street, not a tennis court! Head here to see House number 6 who might just have a growing obsession with Christmas lights (they increase each year!)

Dalgetty Road | Beaumaris

I lived just near here during my second year of university so I have a soft spot for Beaumaris. The stand out house in this suburb is number 151 whose light display is so enormous you can actually take a walk through it!

East

Melbourne’s eastern suburbs light up the sky each Christmas, although a few local councils have dampened the spirit a little over the last year with some new event policies. Nevertheless there are still a few places to head.

Hugo Court | Narre Warren

A number of friends have told me about this particular street, however, it as reported that this Christmas Light display ceased after 2017 due to the local council event policy. I am unsure if this has changed.

Lebanon Crescent and Wattle Grove | Mulgrave

Now this is one huge collection of light displays with number 11 Lebanon Crescent using more than 100,000 lights in total. Stroll over to 41 Wattle Grove to see what 30 years of light curation gives you!

Hunter Road | Camberwell

This is a street with a heart, with the Caruana Family at number 60 using thousands of lights to their home as well as a giant santa, whilst using their night time visibility to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. From Dec 1-26. 8.30-11pm

Fellows Street | Mitcham

Head here to meet Sneezy the Elf and collect a candy cane whilst bopping to Elf Radio. This street comes to life with a whole menagerie of Christmas characters including reindeers, gingerbread men, Santa and more!

West

Some would say that it’s in the west that all this brightness started. I’m not sure, but a number of these houses listed are doing a pretty amazing job at creating Christmas cheer.

Bellbridge Drive | Hoppers Crossing

Another street that knows that a little bling brings about the Christmas cheer.

Wilson Crescent  | Hoppers Crossing

Minions, Paw Patrol, the cast from Frozen…..this is a pretty unique little set up with lots of LEF statues, inflatables and lights.

Crana Court | Hoppers Crossing

Running annually for over two decades, this light display witll take your breath away. It’s pretty amazing.

248 Queen Street  | Altona

15,000 lights, a snowman and an elf, a snow machine on the weekends and a whole lot of fun. This is almost an immersive experience.
