Although I have found no Italian in my lineage, I have always yearned for Italy. It is a passionate country, rich in both culture and food. It is my favourite place to visit. It continues to be at the top of my Bucket List despite already trekking up and down the country a number of times. Now that I have children I hope that they love Italy too so last August I took them to an Italian festival to sow the seed.
For one weekend in August for the last 17 years, Great North Road in Five Dock has morphed into little Italy as it celebrates Ferragosto. With over 160 food, wine and merchandise stalls you will leave with your tummy full and a wide smile of contentment. Italian’s love their children so when organising Ferragosto they have included a number of activities for your children to enjoy when they are not eating all the food. The Cannoli *must* be eaten.
Just like Rome you will find wandering Roman centurion’s and, of course, lots of Nutella.
