Voted one of S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Quay – www.quay.com.au is one of Australia’s most awarded restaurants with Head Chef Peter Gilmore producing world-class cuisine in what I think is the best location in the world. You know you have it good when your partner surprises you on your birthday with a dinner at such a place. For a couple of years now, with our birthdays only weeks apart, we have made it a tradition to save for a year and choose one of the best restaurants somewhere in Australia to dine for our celebration. I couldn’t have been happier with T’s choice this year!
With the kids enjoying a night with their grandparents, T escorted me into the Terminal Building in Circular Quay for an exquisite night of delight. I can not convey how truly wonderful the experience was for us both. On arrival we were whisked to our seats which had an amazing panoramic view of the harbour starting at the Harbour Bridge and sweeping across to the Sydney Opera House. There was too much to think about across the menu so we decided to be truly decadent and ordered the degustation meal. We’re not actually drinkers so were a tiny bit embarrassed to order water and cola, but the waiters didn’t bat an eye and made us feel comfortable.
Every single dish was exquisite and we tasted many ingredients that have never made it to our bucket list simply because we didn’t realise you could eat it! The highlight, which I had been so excited about ever since I discovered where we were eating, was the Snow Egg. I’ve added Peter Gilmore’s Snow Egg Tutorial so you can see how it is made and appreciate it a little. I say a little as it is exceeded my expectation! Lychee is one of my favourite fruits so I was very pleased to see it that night’s Snow Egg flavour.

As night fell we were able to watch the harbour transform and the lights appear. What a magical, truly beautiful city I live in. The night made me realise how truly blessed I am, with chocolate topping off the experience.
I’ve decided to add “Date Night” as a regular feature of Kid Bucket List. There’s no denying that a night out with one’s better half every now and again creates sparks which makes us happier, more grounded parents. That’s worth celebrating! I hope you enjoy.
I would add that you take me next time because it looks yummy and sounds great. (probably negates a date night though hey) 🙂
Well yes – but I could always create a “Girls Night Out” category and work towards that 😉
