Miss N is obsessed with climbing. It’s a marvel really. This is a girl who falls over standing up. Put her in a climbing harness and she soars to great heights. She squashes her own fears and overcomes them as she climbs higher and higher. I stand, feet firmly on the ground, attempting to overcome my own anxiety to encourage her and congratulate her as she reaches a new summit.
When a friend posted about Peak Pursuits – www.peakpursuits.com.au in Castle Hill I immediately added it to our Kid Bucket List. It is the first site in Australia to feature a SkyTrail ropes course which incorporates a continuous belay system, as well as a next-generation auto belay system across their climbing activities. For me, this was a win – no more blistered hands from holding the ropes as she climbed.
At 5 years of age, Miss N was *just* old enough to try the high ropes course. On her first attempt, she climbed the steps and decided it was too high. What if she fell? After explaining to her that the belay system actually prevents her from falling to the ground if she lost her footing she decided to try it again. The course contains a 3 Line Rope Bridge, Double Vertical Rope Ladder, Deep Burma Buckets, Full Cargo Net, Zigzag Beam, Rickety Bridge, Swinging Steps, Charlie Chaplin, Quarter Cargo Net and Pommel crossing.
As a parent observer I was terrified, but maintained my cool as I watched her succeed in mastering them all on her second attempt. When she came back down she told me that she did have butterflies in her tummy at one stage, but pushed them down deep so she could keep going. She’s always impressing me.
Peak Pursuit sessions run every hour on the hour. Tickets for children 5-17 are only $20.00.
The bravest 5 year old I know! How fun. Love your site by the way. It’s gorgeous xo
I have no idea where she gets it from Rene.
