I have been told that you haven’t really experienced Margaret River, Western Australia if you haven’t stopped by the Margaret River Chocolate Company. With visions of a Charlie Bucket experience, we enthusiastically added it to our itinerary and made it one of our first stops in the early morning. Who doesn’t like chocolate for morning tea?
Margaret River Chocolate Company – www.chocolatefactory.com.au has been making exquisite chocolate products in Western Australia since 1999. With two factories, one in Margaret River and the other in the Swan Valley, this little find is open every day from 9am to 5pm except Christmas Day and stocks a bevy of chocolate bars, chocolate coated delights, hand made truffles, novelty chocolates, chocolate sauces and further delights.
Inside isn’t particularly child friendly. Actually, it’s hard for anyone who likes chocolate to resist the allure of all the yummy goodness that surround. Don’t panic – they do offer tastings of the dark, milk and white chocolate which you can sample at your leisure. I think Master R did the rounds 4-5 times and was affectionately dubbed “Augustus Gloop” for some time thereafter.
If you are interested in how the chocolate is made, there is a viewing window providing a view into the factory. From here the kids can see the equipment used and if you are lucky watch the workers create the goodies. Yum!
The site boasts a yummy cafe and there is a wide expanse of lawn just outside where the kids can run off some of the sugar they have eaten and you can laze in the sun and eat more if you are not yet full.
Margaret River Chocolate Company creates a boutique range of yummy goodness and can be found on the corner of Harman’s Mill Road and Tom Cullity Drive
Metricup, about 15 minutes from Margaret River. Be prepared to want EVERYTHING!
