Do you have a budding palaeontologist at home? One who obsesses about dinosaurs and is always seeking out adventures that will lead them to new discoveries of the reptile kind? T’s bestie has a gorgeous daughter who dreams about unearthing dinosaur fossils so on a recent holiday in Queensland her mum found the perfect place to help her realise one of her Bucket List items and they have shared their experience with us.
Thunderbird Park – www.thunderbirdpark.com offers Thunderegg Fossicking where your little palaeontologist can choose a pick and bucket and go for gold digging up the mine site in search for treasures. Once you have acquired your Souvenir Miner’s Permit you can fill your bucket to the brim and take it all home too!
The Thunderegg’s are real! They haven’t been created by the site just for your palaeontologist’s pleasure. They have been created back when volcanoes where still bubbling and erupting here in Australia. Thunderegg’s were once hollow bubbles which were created when minerals crystallised around a steam bubble in cooling lava. The process often left minute cracks which leached silica-rich minerals inside, filling them with quartz, agate, amethyst, jasper and opalite. You’ll be able to cut open your eggs to see the inner beauty with the use of the custom-made diamond edged saw blade.
Tickets to Thunderegg Fossicking start from $13.50. Click here for full details. To read about B’s Thunderbird Park experience head over to Toldyah where the whole adventure is documented for your reading pleasure!
