Sand. Despite spending many weekends at the beach I can’t stand sand. It has the unbelievable ability to creep into every crevice and it can take days to get it out of my hair despite constant washing. I only just manage to cope with it after a day at the beach thanks to talcum powder (you DO know that trick, right?) So when our good friends asked us to visit the Sydney Hills International Sand Sculpting Exhibition : A Friend in Me – Celebrating Disney.Pixar I was initially horrified. All that sand!
Earlier today we headed off to Bella Vista Farm Park to join our friends at the Sydney Hills International Sand Sculpting Exhibition. I was expecting that we would be walking in sand so I was extremely relieved to see that each sculpture had been created on its own little piece of lawn within the exhibition area. Instant relief!
With a trip to Disneyland just completed and a few years of watching Disney.Pixar movies, the kids quickly identified the characters in each sculpture which included Toy Story 3, Cars, A Bugs Life, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Brave. We were all fascinated by the creations and even had the chance to observe an artist at work creating a new sand sculpture to add to the exhibit.
Scattered around the exhibition area are a number of hands on activities to keep the kids busy including a sand sculpting tent, bulldozer and sand pit. They even have LEGO! Want to relax while the kids play? No problem. There are tables close to the food area (we grabbed ice cream) with a view straight to each activity area.
If you are in Sydney Australia Day Long Weekend you will still be able to check out the exhibition which runs through to January 26, 2014. Missed it? Head to www.sandstormevents.com for a list of their events that are happening around Australia.
