If you’re in Sydney and looking for a place to take the kids that won’t break the bank, will keep them occupied for a few hours and is guaranteed to ensure that by the end of the day they just want to go to bed after dinner I have the place for you.
Designed by James Mather Delaney Design, Blaxland Riverside Park Play Space was constructed back in 2012. It is a magnificent area that is arguably the best playground in Sydney.
Spread over 3 hectares next to Parramatta River, the park is perfect for children of all ages. It features slides, tunnels, swings, a double flying fox, scramble walls, a gigantic climbing tower (called the tee house), the largest outdoor water play facility in the State, climbing walls and even a spinning play disk.
Both Striker (8) and Sunshine (6) love this park and find it the perfect venue for a game of hide and seek with all the hiding spots across the play space. It is a space that allows children to push their physical abilities in a relatively safe area (soft fall carpets most of the ground). It does, of course, meet Australia Standard guidelines.
Whilst there isn’t a lot of shade around the play space, there are numerous places to sit while you supervise the kids. There’s even a BBQ area if you want to bring something along to cook. With the gorgeous Parramatta River nearby, a picnic would easily be enjoyed at this venue as well. Better yet the Armory Wharf Cafe is within walking distance.
Blaxland Riverside Park Play Space is situated on Jamieson Street, Silverwater. It is open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset. Free parking runs alongside the space although it is limited. A map of the area can be found here.
We visited the park only a few weeks ago. It is absolutely amazing … and has been for a while. It has grown and developed over a few years now. While we were there we were ‘surveyed’, and I know that those who look after the park actually do respond to the surveys. An example: The parking isn’t the problem it use to be. … A great venue …
