Can you believe that it is June already? Winter has hit Sydney with what feels like an Antarctic wind blowing across our city. I hope it’s a little warmer in your town. I hope you enjoyed sharing your May adventures over at The Climbing Tree last month. Reading your posts was so interesting and added a plethora of destinations to our ‘must visit’ list.
For the first time, the Wanderlust Travel Linkup is being hosted here on the KidBucketList. We are so excited to have you all here and hope you spare a moment or two to read about some of our latest travels below before adding your post to our link up. Happy travels!
// An Overnight Trip to Victoria
Table of Contents
Our Kid Bucket List travels last month were filled with trips around town and a quick trip interstate for a country stay just outside Trentham, Victoria. Whilst our adventure was very short, we did manage to get chased by kangaroos on the border of the Wombat State Forest. We quickly learned that when wild kangaroos bounds towards you it is best to wave your arms and yell loudly rather than freeze like you would a bear. They quickly turn around and hop away.
Walking through the bush we also learned a little about the impact we can have on our native vegetation when we noted blackberries growing wild amongst the gum trees. This provided strong links with The School of Ants Citizen Science project we have been doing. We also collected some feathers to add to our Curating Nature project. What an adventure!

Love the look of your quick interstate trip. I have to ask: is the Wombat State Forest full of wombats? (I really hope so!!!!)
Yes! It’s named for all the wombats that are native in the area. We found many wombat holes on our walk, but they are typically nocturnal so we didn’t see any wandering around.
Even overnight adventures can be jammed packed with fun (and difference) – I love them!
Looks like a lovely place. Thanks for the tips on how to handle approaching kangaroos (that was fun to write!).
Oh yes! Don’t do what I initially did and tell the kids to pause like a statue ad watch them. Kangaroos are very curious and will head towards you!
Sometimes it is the quick adventures that can be the most exciting.
A quick trip but full of so many adventures! We really don’t explore out backyards enough, do we? I also love to collect feathers! 😉
We don’t! Travel doesn’t require a passport. It can involve an exploration of what is around you and be just as fulfilling.
Cool tip about those kangaroos – thanks for sharing. 🙂 Loved the shots.
