When I was a little girl growing up in Darwin, I dreamed of meeting Tinkerbell. I distinctively remember blowing out the candles on my 6th birthday cake and wishing (my eyes tightly shut) that I could be a fairy too. When I heard that Walt Disney’s World on Ice was coming to Australia, I was so excited! But then……
my parents…..
….explained that Disney couldn’t make it to Darwin.

Fast forward about 30 years into the future to Sydney, NSW. There I was sitting watching a Disney Jnr Show with Miss N when an advertisement flashed on the screen revealing that Disney on Ice was headed for Australia. I squealed! I think I shook a little. Before I knew it, I was booking a 4 tickets to see the show. Since that day, it has become a yearly outing for Sunshine and her BFF

Disney On Ice’s 2015 tour is themed ‘Dare To Dream’. Last night we had the chance to attend Disney on Ice presents Dare to Dream. It was our fourth year in a row! Miss N was excited to take along one of her best friends. At the age of 6, Disney has managed to cast its spell on her, and just like me at her age, she wishes she could be a part of the show too. She spent much of the day leading up to our 7.00pm performance making sure her Elsa dress, crown and shoes from our Bippity Boppity Boutique experience were ready to be worn.
If you’ve been to a Disney on Ice production before you know the drill. Two 45 minute halves of high energy skating with a 15 minute break in between. If you haven’t, let me tell you a little about how the show typically unfolds. Minnie and Mickey Mouse are traditionally the MCs and they provide a lead into each segment of the show. You see, as you watch, a number of stories from selected Disney Films are brought to life on the ice. It is always spectacular. It is always, always captivating. You’ll find it difficult to take your eyes away the entire time.

Disney on Ice’s Dare to Dream production weaves a number of Disney films into the night’s performance. You will see The Princess and the Frog, Snow White, Cinderella, and Miss N’s absolute favourite, Tangled. You’ll find yourself drawn in, at times feeling like you are on the ice with the characters.

Now, I’ve seen a few of these shows over the last few years and they have always managed to surprise me in some way. I wasn’t expecting this feeling to be replicated again but I was blown away. My gosh, the second half of the production- the Tangled sequences were amazing. Actually, they were beyond amazing. If you can imagine Cirque de Soleil on ice you will be able to imagine a little of what we saw.
I was a little bemused when Miss N looked at me then whispered “how did they train the horse?” into my ear. It made my night!

We were a little overwhelmed by the time the grand finale started and all our favourite princesses made it into the ice. It was THAT good. We really didn’t want it to end.
A little word of warning – the merchandise is plentiful and carefully displayed at most exit points. Every year we purchase a program and a Disney themed light. This year we extended our purchases to a snow cone in a Tangled themed cup.
We’re wishing and hoping that the new Disney on Ice Frozen production makes it to Australia next year!
There are still performances available here in Sydney for tonight and tomorrow. You can purchase tickets from Ticketek starting from just $29.50. Additional discounts apply on select performances. For more information visit www.disneyonice.com.au. Thank you to Disney for inviting us to last night’s performance.
(Btw – my dreams really did come true at Christmas last year when I spotted Tinkerbell flying over Sleeping Beauty’s castle at Disneyland 😉 )
