Have you ever had one of those days where every minute is tied up in scheduled appointments? You know, those days where you are busy pulling the kids from one meeting to another as your stress level increases. I had one of those days recently. The kids energy was bottled up as they tried to remain polite and settled for each specialist we saw.
As we closed the door on our last appointment, I wondered if the kids could maintain the calm until we got home. I wasn’t taking any chances and used my phone to find a park suitable for kids somewhere near Westmead. I read a little blurb about Holroyd Gardens and headed straight there via Gelato Messina (gelato is a great reward for Mum the kids).
Having never explored Merrylands previously, I was unsure what to expect. The reviews all gave Holroyd Gardens a big tick but would it really live up to the hype? I headed down Pitt Street and turned at the old Children’s Museum where I found the park.
I’ll be honest, the kids were complaining as we left Gelato Messina and were keen to go straight home. Their entire attitude changed when we drove into the car park and they spotted the bike track. Instant change. As soon as we came to a complete halt they ran straight to the playground.
So what did I think? With a road safety road track, a ‘big kids’ playground featuring both a flying fox and climbing wall, and a ‘little kids’ playground with swings, slides and seesaws, it was quite impressive. I spied a number of picnic tables and plentiful foliage, making this spot an ideal family picnic space. The public toilets were clean too!!
