Spring time in Sydney can be a glorious thing and so far it is just that. The season has produced a gorgeous blue sky almost every day. Oh the joy! With a spare Saturday afternoon up our sleeve we thought we would find the kids a new experience. We racked our brains and came up with Putt Putt Golf!
Putt Putt Ermington is CLOSED
Here in Sydney there are a small number of putt putt golf spots. We headed to Putt Putt @ Ermington which has been an institution for much longer than I have been in Sydney! In fact, when I first started teaching we often took our students to this very place for after school excursions.
When we proposed our afternoon adventure to the kids they both became very excited. Apparently there is a Simpson’s episode where Homer sets out to design his own Putt Putt Golf course. I’ve no idea when they actually watched that episode and I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I myself learned about Putt Putt from TV when I watched Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell in Overboard. NB: A quick google and I was aghast to discover that movie came out in 1987- years before I started high school!
Putt Putt @ Ermington can currently be found just off Victoria Road. Unfortunately the local council, despite a large petition by the community, has sold the land that the course is built on to a large property development group. This means that the site will not be a great family day out for much longer (although there is talk to relocate).
If you visit Putt Putt @ Ermington you will be able to choose from three courses: Fun Run, Jungle Trail or Water Ways. We were unable to choose between them so chose to buy a 3 course ticket at $20.00 per child. The team let us know that if we found ourselves too exhausted to continue after any course, we could return with our ticket on another day and resume the next course. Brilliant!
With 18 holes per course, I was unsure if the kids would endure the full run. I was surprised to find that they never got tired playing and asked for another go after each course. The bigger the challenge, the more fun they had. There were windmill holes, a jail run, a water feature and many, many more which they loved.
Putt Putt @ Ermington is located on 1226 Victoria Rd, Ermington. It is open every day until 10.00 pm, except Friday and Saturday nights when it is open to midnight. The site is closed on Christmas Day. It has a fully stocked canteen (we enjoyed their ice creams) and lots of parking.
