Travelling while menstruating is something that most mums need to deal with and, later on, their tween and teenage daughters. As one such mother, I recently went on the hunt for a solution to the juggling act that is menstruating while travelling and found, what I think is, the best period undies for travelling here in Australia, Let me introduce you to Modibodi.
I first spied Modibodi a year or two ago and was intrigued by the idea of a pair of underpants that could be used instead of panty liners, pads or tampons. However, I wasn’t really sold because I was worried about leakage, comfort, and then, of course, the price. I continued to travel, tolerating Aunt Flo’s monthly visit and adopting a number of strategies to manage its arrival.

Table of Contents
To be honest, menstruating while travelling is a huge nuisance especially if you are overseas for more than a month. If you are unprepared it is unlikely that you will find your regular tampon or pad brand and when you do, they are unlikely to be the same as at home. There’s the potential of leaking on your hotel bed sheets, not knowing where you can change and all those other things that you need to consider when travelling with your period.
After travelling in Macedonia for close to three months I decided there had to be another way, so just before our second trip to Japan I reached out to Modibodi so I could try a sample and so began my life-changing journey with Modibodi. You may like to check out other period pants for tweens.
Modibodi Period Undies
Before I move on to tell you about my journey with Modibodi, I must reassure you that I haven’t been paid by them to talk about their undies and I haven’t signed up to be a part of their affiliate program either. I did receive a pair of classic bikini, Seamfree full brief and a contour hi-waist full brief to try, with a promise to share on social media (which I did a few months ago). However, wearing them in Japan has convinced me that I need to tell you all about them and why I am now a convert.
The Modibodi Story
Modibodi is an Australian success story. The concept began back in late 2013 and was a two-year journey where the idea was prototyped and fine-tuned to create what it is today. That included consultation with up to 100 textile engineers and fibre companies (both in the USA and Australia) and close to 1,000 scientific tests. The team behind Modbodi finally had their design and patented it – an Australian period-undie that would be perfect for most women and girls!
The Modibodi Undies Fabric
Earlier I mentioned that the Modibodi undie design is patented so I am unsure of the science behind the whole thing but I do know it works! The selected fabrics for the undies include Bamboo, Merion Perform Wool and Microfibre, along with the latest in breathable, antimicrobial fibres that use the brands patented Modifier Technology to create a 3mm thing stain resistant lining. It’s both mositure wicking and odour fighting so, while I’m being open with you all, has led me to sometimes wear my Modibodi undies between my cycle when I know I have a physically active day ahead of me.
So how does it all work?
The magic is all in the Modibodi linings! There are four different linings for different support needs: period and pee friendly; sweat and pong proof; period and pee friendly at the beach; and, leaky boobies. I’ve tried the first two versions and, hand on my heart, they worked!
All you need to do is work out your requirements on the table below and you are on your way to matching yourself with the perfect Modibodi product. When Aunt Flo visits me she’s pretty full on and I don’t think I’ve slept without an issue for years UNTIL I wore the Modifier HEAVY Modibodi to bed! I love that I can now wear these to bed when staying in hotels reassured that there will be NO issue! Phew!
Caring for your Modibodi
For all of you who have travelled for more than a week or two you would know that laundering your washing can be one of the most challenging aspects of your trip unless you have sourced accommodation with a washing machine. For this very reason, I was concerned that the whole washing of my Modibodi undies would be what turned me off them. Surprisingly, caring for your Modibodi is quite easy.
After removing your Modibodi you simply rinse them in cold water until it runs clear. They can then be thrown in your regular wash (I suggest a delicates bag) before being hung to dry. There’s no soaking, no need for fabric softener, no need for anything else. Simple, right?
Buying Modibodi
So by now, you have probably noticed that I am a Modibodi convert. I seriously am! I was skeptical, to begin with, and was concerned that they might be a little pricey especially if they didn’t live up to my expectation. Having tried them for a few months now I am convinced that they are an investment and will be ordering more!
However, to further support customers like me who aren’t completely convinced, Modibodi has a 30-day risk-free offer for first-time customers. It allows you to try one Modibodi garment for the 30 days and if you don’t find they function how you would like them to, Modibodi will give you your money back (minus the shipping cost). Great peace of mind, right?

Psst….I wasn’t too keen to post shots of myself in my undies so I’ve sought (and received) permission from Modibodi to post some of their images. As such, it’s not me in any of the images today. Sorry about that, I know you’re disappointed 🙂
