When you’re stuck at home exercise is still extremely important. But how can you help to encourage exercise at home for kids? Exercise for kids is just as important as it is for adults and helps us to stay healthy, maintain good mental health, and have some fun. We’ve found a bunch of kid workouts and exercises to do at home.
Exercise at Home for Kids
Table of Contents
GoNoodle
GoNoodle is a series of movement and mindfulness videos created by child development experts that are FREE to access. It has been inspired to help kids be both active and mindful.
The videos tend to be around 3 minutes each, making them great for brain breaks.
PE with Joe
I’m not quite sure who Joe is, but it appears that he is a PE teacher who is stuck at home for a while. His workouts can be followed quite easily at home and it turns out that my kids, at least, think they’re a lot of fun.
Cosmic Kids Yoga
Yoga can be such a rewarding activity and can help us to ground and centre ourselves. It works for kids too. Cosmic Kids Yoga is a YouTube channel that is devoted to yoga, mindfulness and relaxation for children aged 3+. It’s fairly easy to follow and fun for the kids to boot.
Hip Hop Public Health
I find this site and concept so interesting. Through the power of hip-hop music, kids are engaged in an array of media tools to improve their health literacy.
Kidz Bop Dance Along
I find these videos a little cheesy but they are popular with some of the students I’ve taught. The Kidz Bop Dance Along videos help to incorporate music + movement into your daily routine.
Zumba Kids
Do you remember zumba? Actually, is zumba still a thing? Anyway, when you’re stuck at home it’s reasonable to fall back on old proven exercise resources. Kids seem to love zumba, just don’t call it that!
SWORKIT Youth Initiative
Under the SWORKIT Youth initiative, any teacher with a K-12 classroom, anywhere in the world, can get free access to Sworkit’s paid subscription service (available on Android, iOS, and the web). Teachers will have unlimited access to our extensive library of workouts. I’ve just applied – I’ll let you know what I think soon.
Centr
Okay, okay, this isn’t actually for kids, but CHRIS HEMSWORTH. This manly man has released his online train at home gym/workout system for FREE for 6-weeks. I think he may just be the motivation I need to exercise.
What do you think? Are these resources a good start to your home exercise program for kids? Which of these will you choose to do? I’m actually excited that I will have a chance to finally wear some activewear!
