The last year has seen a surge of food blogs and instagram posts filling my social media stream. Food is fashionable and the more unique and artistic its presentation, the more likely it is to be shared and become viral. I must admit to adding a visit to a cafe or restaurant on spotting a single image that intrigues me. Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth….literally.
When I spotted My Sweet Boutique on Instagram last week I instantly clicked the heart on a bunch of their images, became a follower and then continued on my virtual “time filling”. I didn’t really think about the pop up again until I found myself in Marrickville for a meeting and checked my instagram feed while waiting for my colleagues to arrive. Their latest image appeared in my feed and I realised it was just around the corner. Guess where I headed after the meeting?
When I arrived at My Sweet Boutique I was a little surprised to find that it was a little demountable at the side of a petrol station. It was dressed up and looked very smart. I parked the park and walked up to order. Oh the delights.
The first thing to do was to choose the size of my order: Slider $6.00, Slab $9.00, or Smashed Waffle Jar $12.00. Of course, to truly experience My Sweet Boutique I’m convinced that you need to order the Smashed Waffle Jar.
Next – what to fill it with. There were six options on my visit:
- The Ville: Vanilla bean Ice-cream, walnuts and real maple syrup + cinnamon sugar
- The Metro: Vanilla bean Ice-cream, fresh strawberries, nutella + salty pretzels
- #2204: Salty caramel Ice-cream, fresh banana, popcorn + homemade salty caramel sauce
- Station St: Salty caramel Ice-cream, macadamia nuts + hot Belgian chocolate
- Enmore: Rocky road Ice-cream, hot belgian chocolate, chocolate brownie + Marshmallows
- #no name?: Vanilla bean Ice-cream, sun dried figs, pecans + real apple sauce
I chose #2204. I didn’t realise, although the sizes would make it obvious to most people, that the options also include waffles. Oh my! I was unsure if I could eat it all Everything was perfect. The homemade salty caramel sauce was amazing and should be sold in a takeaway bottle for home – it was THAT good! It was one of those super yummy varieties that leave a wonderful taste on your lips afterwards. The waffles were fluffy, delightfully crisp on the outside and cloud like in the centre. With a little ice-cream and carmel sauce on top they could not have been any better. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.
When we visit again I think I will try either The Metro or the Enmore, I haven’t quite decided. If you want to visit, head to My Sweet Boutique’s Facebook page to locate their latest popup store.
Thank you for this wonderful post on My Sweet Boutique…so happy you had an enjoyable experience….warmest and waffle regards Liz xo
Can’t wait to hear where you are next. Nom, nom!
