Liverpool Catholic Club | Laneway Play Area

Sydney weather can be extreme and there comes a time when every parent finds themselves looking for an indoor activity that will provide the kids with an opportunity to burn off some energy. What if I could tell you that an indoor play area exists that must be one of the best in the city and hardly anyone knows about it yet – the Liverpool Catholic Club Laneway Play Area!

The Laneway at Liverpool Catholic Club

The Laneway is brand new having been unveiled back in November 2019 during the Liverpool Catholic Club’s multistage makeover.

The Laneway Play Area

The Laneway Play Area dominates the space, is fully fenced and provides enough climbing and movement structures for toddlers right through to tweens. It also has expansive natural light which is quite unusual for a playspace and very much needed.

As noted, the Laneway Play Area at Liverpool Catholic Club is fully fenced, although it is easily climbed by those with a little height (but not toddlers!). It has two gates, one at each end of the space.

The space is dominated by climbing structures and netting. It is incredible and reminds me of an art installation.  Slides, ropes, and more climbing! There are also a number of interactive boards for toddlers scattered and ground level for the reluctant climber.

Sunshine and her best friend spent a good half day here and were reluctant to leave.

Eating at the Laneway

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating at the Liverpool Catholic Club’s Laneway. With seating wrapping around the Laneway Play Area, you can order and keep an eye on the kids at the same time.

Currently, the Laneway has seating for around 150 people, however, the final stage of the Club’s overhaul will see this expanded to 750. There are a number of places to order food and drink from too!

Liverpool Catholic Club Membership

The Laneway is a free space for members of the Liverpool Catholic Club. I think this makes it a perfect destination for play dates as us parents can eat and chat while the kids play. It’s safe, has great amenities and will keep the kids happily engaged in play.

Access to the Liverpool Catholic Club is for members only. To access the club you must be Member of the Liverpool Catholic Club or be signed in by a Member of the Liverpool Catholic Club, be from interstate or be a member of another Catholic club.

On my first visit, I invested in a 3-year membership for $20.00, although you might like to sign up for 1 year to begin with at $7.00. The membership fee also attracts $11 meals in the bistro and various discounts across the club.

Dress code

I learned the hard way about Club dress codes when I turned up to a Sports Clubs few years ago in my lucky Havaianas and was refused entry. Most clubs, including Liverpool Catholic Club, have strict regulations around what can be worn and what can not be worn inside the club.

When visiting the Laneway Play Area at the Liverpool Catholic Club you must be clean and tidy. You are likely to be refused entry if you are wearing thongs (flip-flops), swimwear, singlets including singlet tops, sleeveless sweatshirts, leotards and activewear, hats (although religious and medical are exempt and can be worn), bare feet, provocative, obscene or offensive clothing.
