A Forest in the City : The Sydney Opera House

The Kid Bucket List’s littlest cuties headed to the Sydney Opera House today to experience A Forest in the City.

A Forest in the City | Sydney Opera House

Brought to The House by the same production crew as Saltbush we knew we had a delight awaiting us. We were promised an interactive performance, integrating full-scale, colourful projections with dance.

From the onset, both cuties were completely engaged with the magic of the production. The show is very interpretive, taking the audience’s imagination to places they wouldn’t usually go. Led by two dancers on stage, the girls watched as a magical green city was created onstage.

The dancers appeared to be opposing forces: one, the created landscape of houses, streets and the city. The other, is the grass, trees and the greenery of nature. As they come together and draw on their individual strengths, the audience watches how both urban and green can co-exist in harmony. The cuties couldn’t take their eyes off the stage.

The performance explores:

  • The elements of wind and air
  • Seasons, starting in winter and moving across each to summer
  • Day and night
  • Living and built environments
  • Music, movement and multimedia

The absolute highlight for the two cuties was the invitation to play, imagine and experiment with movement when they (along with all the children in the audience) were invited on stage to explore. The performers created a calm, safe, warm, and welcoming environment, providing space to be vulnerable and lean into the explorative opportunity.
