A Lunch Date In The Rocks : A Bento Box, Table Tennis and Jenga

A Lunch Date In The Rocks : A Bento Box, Table Tennis and Jenga

During term time we typically only have one day per week to travel to new destinations between work, school and our extra curricula commitments. The School Holidays provide so much scope for adventure. With a huge international trip on the horizon we scaled back our holiday adventures again this month and decided to focus our attention on Sydney.

One morning, half way through our first week, T and I embraced our spontaneous spirit and on whim caught the train to the city with the kids. We hopped off at Circular Quay and headed towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge thinking we should climb it with the kids (full coming soon). The climb ate up all of our energy so we headed into the guts of The Rocks to find some lunch.

Our family are quite a diverse lot when it comes to food preferences. We all have different tastes although we are all willing to try different things. In the heart of The Rocks you will find an outdoor style food court. Lucky for us it has something everyone will want. I spotted a Japanese takeaway (Hero Sushi) that also offered Bento boxes. I ordered a deluxe bento for around $16.00. When it came, Master R swapped seats so he could sit next to me and declared “I think you need to share that with me”. I agreed on the condition that he tried the Teriyaki Chicken, Miso Soup, fried Sweet Potato and a pickle. He did! Miss N looked on as she ate her Subway. It was the best Bento Box ever (well maybe not, but I felt extra proud that Master R had tried something new).

While eating, the kids realised that there was a table tennis table set up in the area. They headed straight over after finishing their food. We also discovered Jenga, Snakes and Ladders and a Soccer table in the area. We spent over and hour in the space. Gosh we love the Rocks!
