Twilight at Taronga has been on our Kid Bucket List for such a long time and this summer we finally checked it off!! I’m still buzzing. It is such a great location for an evening concert, with a slight sea breeze that takes the edge off the Sydney humidity. Perfection!
Running for at least 30 years, I am kicking myself that I haven’t crossed the Bridge for one of the many shows at Taronga over the years. We have missed out – big time! The lineup for 2025 included so many great artists and groups including Baby Animals & Killing Heidi, Spiderbait, The Cruel Sea, David Campbell, Peter Garrett and Bjorn Again just to name a few. So cool!
Of course, Taronga always thinks of the whole family and has introduced Lil’ Twilight morning shows which are perfect for families with younger kids. This year both Emma Memma and Justine Clarke. performed to a packed audience. Oh to have preschoolers again! Sigh
For me, Twilight at Taronga is the perfect concert location. It feels intimate – brimming with audience members yet it doesn’t feel crowded. You can lay out a picnic blanket and enjoy a homemade feast, or purchase a hamper from the zoo. If you want to make it easy peasy, the VIP section provides a comfy seat and a snack and drink service from your seat. Better yet, unlike stadium concerts, I didn’t need to wear my Loop earplugs. Perfection!
So who did we see? With a teenager in tow who I have only recently introduced to Mamma Mia! – the movie, an ABBA experience was our top pick. Yes, we chose Bjorn Again for our first Twilight at Taronga experience and it was such a good choice. We had such an incredible time.
Bjorn Again
As soon as Bjorn Again hit the stage, the crowd were buzzing. The opening chords of Waterloo sent a ripple of cheers through the audience, and before Sunshine could think about what others might say, I was up on my feet, dancing and singing at the top of my lungs. It was so much fun.
This awesome tribute band nailed ABBA’s iconic sound—those harmonies, the dazzling costumes, the cheeky banter—it was like stepping into a 1970s time warp, but with the best Sydney backdrop imaginable. I can’t think of a concert where I’ve had so much fun (and we were at Billie Eilish just a week prior!).
Twilight at Taronga transformed into an outdoor disco. People of all ages—kids, parents, grandparents—were swaying, spinning, and belting out the lyrics like we were all in a Mamma Mia! flash mob. It was impossible not to get swept up in the fun. Even my usually too-cool teenager was singing along, and that’s when I knew we’d made the right choice.
The encore? Thank You for the Music. And honestly, after a night like that, all I wanted to do was shout “Thank you for the concert!” right back at them. What. A. Night!
