We are super excited to welcome Kylie from Kidgredients today to talk to us about a super cool Kids Party Event in Sydney, or should I say THE party they’ll all get excited about, Kid Dub who have proclaimed themselves the world’s first time-travelling kid’s party!
If you love to dance, your kids love to dance and you want a fabulous way to spend an hour with your kids, then you need to get tickets to the next Kid Dub that is on near you!
To be honest, when a friend suggested going to Kid Dub, I did a quick google and found next to nothing on this event. I thought I might be getting myself into some crazy event that I would hate, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth.
This is a Kids Party Event in Sydney you don’t want to miss!
Based on the idea of the hot dub (time travelling DJ), kid dub is remixed and organised to appeal to the kids…and their parents. It’s a 45 minute show that takes you back in time through music and dance.
And it’s awesome. Starting in 1954, Kid Dub hits all the important notes of each decade and has a giant screen with all the moves you need to look cool…or otherwise. It encourages parents and kids to dance together and sing along, if you know the words. The lights are lowered, the screen is bright, the DJ- Lulu Loud is fun and engaging and the whole concept is cool.
Cooler than the songs I like apparently! Balloons drop from the ceiling with a throwback to Luft Balloons 9 (seriously- does anyone know the words to that song?), the glitter cannon explodes shiny paper over the crowd and the glow tubes are a hit.
Basically, it’s a dance party with a big screen to copy dance moves (hello Macarena!) and it’s a whole lot of fun. It’s awesome because the adults know the dance moves from the older songs and the room starts bursting with excitement as the 80’s and 90’s get closer (as I guess that’s when most of the parents at the event are from!).
In the room there were hundreds of families, with everything from super young babies to teenagers and the atmosphere was amazing. Everyone was smiling, laughing and generally having fun. Luckily the aircon was on in the room as we had a serious workout. 45 minutes dancing straight was enough to make my Apple watch excited that I had completed my workout for the day.
Presented as part of the Sydney Comedy Festival at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville, it was a fantastic experience that allowed the whole family to be immersed in all the songs and dances.
I don’t think I’ve ever had more fun at 2.00 pm on a weekend in my life. If you see Kid Dub advertised near you (it’s often part of comedy festivals or fringe festivals) get your family some tickets! This is something you need to experience to believe. I never thought I would attend a rave with my kids 😉
Kid Dub is currently on hiatus.
Kylie can normally be found blogging about Kids and Family food at Kidgredients. She loves cooking, and having fun with her 2 kids, Master 5 and Miss 7. Kylie self funded her visit to Kid Dub.
