Howzat! Just 90 minutes south of Sydney, in the Southern Highlands, you will find the Bradman Museum and International Cricket Hall of Fame nestled in the glorious township of Bowral. Surprisingly, it’s a spot that we soon found will even appeal to those who know little about cricket.

The Bradman Museum originally opened in 1989 on the back of Bradman Oval, which had been named after him way back in 1947. Over time, the museum evolved and grew to include the International Cricket Hall of Fame which was opened in November 2010.
What surprised us about the Bradman Museum and International Cricket Hall of Fame was the curation of cricket memorabilia spanning way back in time. The kids were able to see the evolution of both the cricket bat and cricket ball over time, learning exactly what cricket is and its importance in history.
There are a range of exhibits across the museum which feature interactive technology and hands-on activities as well as cricket artifacts, narratives, and media.
Why Bowral?
Born on 27 August, 1908 in Cootamundra, NSW, Sir Donald Bradman moved to Bowral with his family when he was around 2 1/2 years old. From 1920 until he was selected for the NSW cricket team, The Don played cricket in the Southern Highlands as a member of the local Bowral team.
It was also in 1920 that he met Jessie Menzies, a boarding student in Bowral. She would become his wife and his life long companion.
As the very place that kickstarted Sir Donald Bradman’s cricket career and his family life, it is fitting that the Bradman museum resides in Bowral, don’t you think?
The Famous Bradman Oval
Set at the foot of Mount Gibraltar, the Bradman Oval is the very place that the great Sir Donald “Don” Bradman played cricket back in the 1920s. It is sacred ground for cricketers, with the Don’s ashes scattered on and around the oval.
Today it is home to the Highlands District Cricket Association who play here quite regularly. However, if you would love to play a match on the very grounds that Sir Donald Bradman played frequently, you can hire the grounds.
If you would love a piece of the oval, you can purchase a vial of dirt and turf from the Bradman Museum and International Cricket Hall of Fame gift shop.
Visiting the Bradman Museum and International Cricket Hall of Fame
The Bradman Museum and International Cricket Hall of Fame is a leisurely 90 minutes from Sydney and is open daily between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day. To do the museum well, give yourself around 2 hours.
Location: St Jude St, Bowral NSW 2576
Cost: Family (2 Adults & 3 children) – $55.00. The ticket provides unlimited entry on the day of purchase.
Opening Hours: 10.oo am – 5.00 pm every day, except Good Friday and Christmas Day.
Parking: Free parking is available on St Jude Street and Glebe Street.
