Luna Park Sydney Tickets and Rides

When it comes to visiting Sydney with kids, Luna Park Sydney is often one of the places that makes every list. Opening back in 1935, Luna Park is today a heritage listed amusement park, one of only two in the world that are protected by government legislation! A number of the rides are pure vintage and give you a hands on experience of the evolution of the amusement ride.

For our family, a visit to Luna Park Sydney offers a guaranteed day (and evening) of fun and adrenaline flooding our system. But it can be pricey if you don’t prepare. We’ve pulled together this resource to help you plan the best day and get a head start on Luna Park Sydney tickets and rides.

Luna Park Attractions

There are a plethora of adrenaline provoking rides and attractions at Luna Park Sydney which will thrill all ages. We have captured a few of our favourite to give you a little taste of what to expect.

Coney Island

Coney Island has always been my favourite thing about visiting Luna Park with kids. It is authentically vintage whilst appealing to the modern kid with a bounty of old school rides, pinball machines and fun galore.

This space includes an illusion mastermind of the mirror maze where we always laugh hysterically as we make the wrong turn again and again and get lost, Giant slides which you slide down inside hessian sacks, the Joy Wheel (Sunshine and Striker spent an hour here on our last trip, trying to beat each other again and again), Barrels of Fun, the largest collection of pinball machines in Australia, and so much more.

Ferris Wheel

As a kid the ferris wheel was my favourite ride, but as I embarked on parenthood it has become terrifying, much to the delight of my children. Luna Park Sydney has an amazing ferris wheel with carriages that will take you 40 metres above Sydney Harbour offering some of the best views in town.

Carousel

Come on, who doesn’t love a merry-go-round! The Luna Park Sydney Carousel is a striking marvel boasting beautiful show ponies saddled up in all their finery. This stunning hand-painted carousel boasts 1,640 twinkling bulbs with glass mirrors. The ride only takes a few minutes, but as you whirl around you are lulled into relaxation by the sound of old time carnival music. Regardless of your age, you should do it at least once!

Little Kids area

Behind Coney Island you will find the area for toddlers. Our family calls it the “little kids area” but that hasn’t stopped us heading there to ride one or two of the smaller rides. This area includes u-drive, whirly wheel, spider, and pirates revenge (which we always love!).

Volare

Volare is Australia’s largest and highest wave swinger and the newest attraction to Luna Park Sydney and has fast become one that Sunshine runs to as soon as we arrive very.single.time.

Wild Mouse

The Wild Mouse is one of those vintage rides that makes you feel like you are putting your life in its hands. It squeaks and roars and totally rattles your teeth. Lasting just over a minute, this ride will whizz you around a 400 metre circuit high above Luna Park, and fling you around at terrifying speeds. Perhaps save eating for AFTER you take the ride.

Rotor

Come in spinner…it is time to get your rotor running! Opened since the 1950s, this is the perfect ride to show the kids how gravity works. Basically, through the power of physics, you are pulled up against the wall as you are spun around. When you least expect it, the floor falls away and you will hang in mid air.

Eating at Luna Park Sydney

There are a number of places to eat at Luna Park Sydney that caters for a range of different budgets.

Helter Skelter

Helter Skelter is all about retro take away food. Think pluto pups, cheese burgers, roasted chicken and American burgers. This is the place if you are hoping to snack between rides.

Deck Bar

I have a few friends with teens and tweens who position themselves at one of the tables at Deck Bar which overlook the harbour and send the kids off the play. It has amazing views, and whilst it is family friendly it also offers a selection of alcohol to quench your thirst and an assortment of snacks.

Altum Restaurant

If you are feeling like treating you and the kids to a smart casual dining experience while visiting Luna Park Sydney, then Altum Restaurant may be your pick. The menu favours sharing amongst friends and family and is well complemented by Altum’s widely applauded wine list.

Hungry Horse

We always end up eating at the Hungry Horse as it seems to have something on the menu that caters for the varied tastes of our familiy palate. The Hungry Horse features a unique indoor and Al Fresco dining area with decor inspired by the classic carousel ride, with a menu boasting delights such as mouthwatering Buttermilk Southern Fried Chicken, Cheesy Chicken Loaded Fries, Sticky Pork Ribs and more!
