The National Zoo and Aquarium also features the incredible Jamala Wildlife Lodge which recreates an African accomodation style including large windows where star animals interact with you during your stay.

Auburn Botanic Gardens
Auburn Botanic Gardens is well known for its Japanese styled gardens and incredible cherry blossoms. However, it also features a lovely aviary and wildlife area that families can access while visiting the park. It is small, but on each of our visits it appears that no one else knows about it!

Australian Reptile Park
When it comes to Australian Zoos and Wildlife Parks, this park is one of the best to head to if you want to learn all about the reptiles of our island continent. Pitched as a hands on zoo, there are always a number of keepers roaming the grounds to give you a close encounter with a scaly animal. It is definitely one of the Australian zoos and wildlife parks to visit with kids.

Dingo Sanctuary
This incredible Dingo Sanctuary is committed to ensuring dingoes remain a distinct specie, separate from the domesticated dog. The park is incredibly clean, rarely busy, and the perfect place in NSW to come close to a dingo is a safe manner. All funds raised go straight back into the conservation of the dingo. It is lovely to find more than one of Australian zoos and wildlife parks is committed to their work with so much passion.

Featherdale Wildlife Park
Featherdale Wildlife Park is touted as the best Australian wildlife park in the state and is regularly visited by celebrities and known personalities who are keen to learn more about the animals of our country. We try to head out to Featherdale at least once a year and adore their new animal encounters. For a few dollars you can purchase food to hand feed the wallabies, kangaroos and even the emus.

Koala Park Sanctuary

The Park site is of significant cultural importance to the local Arrernte people and includes parts of the Akngwelye Artnwere and Yeperenye Altyerre (Wild Dog and Caterpillar dreaming stories). Crocodylus Park
Crocodylus Park has over 1,000 crocodiles on site from hatchlings through to massive adults measuring over 4.8 m. Currumbin Sanctuary
I have vivid memories of visiting Currumbin Sanctuary as a little girl and feeding the rainbow lorikeets. A few decades later and this sleepy little sanctuary has become one of the largest tourist attractions in Southern Queenlsand. Built back in 1947, it is now heritage listed and features and abundance of Australian wildlife.

Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures
If you’re in Tropical North Queenland and keen to see a crocodile or two, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is reputed to be the best pace. Just 40 minutes north of Cairns, they site has 2100 metres of timber boardwalks and pathways which lead you through the woodlands where you can see an abundance of tropical animals. Tasmania Zoo is a privately owned park that is home to 100 rare, exotic and native species. Situated in the Tamar Valley, Tasmania exhibits the second largest collection of primates in any private Australian Zoo and is the only zoo in Australasia to exhibit the Celebes Crested Macaque.

Opened in 1979, Trowunna Wildlife Park is a privately owned facility whose focus is on conservation, education and rehabilitation. Trowunna provides a haven of 65 acres for native transient Tasmanian wildlife and migratory wildlife. We absolutely loved visiting Trowunna Wildlife Park.

Wing’s Wildlife Park
Wing’s Wildlife Park was the first Tasmanian park to import American bison. Their display also extends to include an aquatic section where you can view Brook trout, Brown trout and Rainbow trout (including albino rainbow trout) and Atlantic salmon. Wing’s Wildlife Park is a family orientated business.

Ballarat Wildlife Park
Ballarat Wildlife Park is a family owned park that specialises in native Australian animals and a wide variety of exotic reptiles. At the park you can see free roaming Kangaroos, Koalas, Wombats, Tasmanian Devils, Eagles, Giant Tortoises, Crocodiles and Alligators to a large display of Lizards and both venomous and non-venomous Snakes.

Werribee Open Range Zoo
As a kid, I often visited Werribee Mansion and the zoo. I would excitedly explore all the exhibits and marvelled at the safari tour. Whilst the mansion is now a hotel, the zoo has improved a whole lot since I was a kid and now boasts a much improved safari tour which is included in the price. This is one to head to when you are in Victoria.

Caversham Wildlife Park
This family run wildlife park offers the chance to see over 200 different species of wildlife. Stroll around the grounds and feed some of the wildlife and farm animals, or stop into some of the talks that are scheduled each day.
We have visited the Caversham Wildlife Park but have not covered it on the Kid Bucket List.

Cohunu Koala Park
Set of 14 hectares of bushland, Cohunu Koala Park features a number of bush tracks and pathways which will lead you to different spots where you can hand feed a number of the animals. You will no doubt spot a few of the 30 talking parrots, dingoes, kangaroos, emus, deer and koalas, just to name a few of the animals that live at the park.

Eagles Heritage Raptor Wildlife Centre
Set within a natural bushland setting, Eagles Heritage Raptor Wildlife Centre boasts the largest collection of Eagles, Hawks, Falcons and Owls in Australia. Offering twice daily flight displays, visitors may be selected to wear a glove and have a bird land on it. Behind the scene, the centre has set aside seven acres used specifically for wildlife rehabilitation. This includes a hospital and specialised facilities designed to help sick, injured and orphaned raptors return to the wild.

Wave Rock Wildlife Park
Set on three hectares of natural bushland, Wave Rock Wildlife Park is home to white, grey or silver kangaroos and wallabies, koalas, golden possums, deers, donkeys, alpacas, camels, exotic poultry, water birds, swans, owls, betongs, wombats and a few other native animals. It’s a great spot to see the iconic black swan.
